Skincare

We all know to keep our skin clean and hydrated but do you ever stop and think about the role our skin has in keeping our bodies healthy?

The skin’s primary role is to protect the body’s tissues and organs from harmful micro-organisms.

Skin is made up of 3 layers; the Epidermis (top) waterproof layer, the Dermis (middle) layer and Subcutaneous (bottom) layer and within each layer there are sub-layers. On the surface of the Epidermis is a slightly acidic film called the Acid Mantle. It is mixed with Sebum (the natural oil our body creates) and has a pH that is around 5.5. The Acid Mantle protects the skin from harmful bacteria and viruses entering the body and when the Acid Mantle breaks down, skin in now susceptible to damage; such as acne, fungal infections and other irritations.

The best way to avoid such problems is to keep skin at it’s healthy pH of 4.5-5.5 by using products that are pH Balanced.
